about

Battle are a hybrid animal: Their music is at once absolutely alien, and down-to-earth and familiar. The Copenhagen four-piece amplifies the sound of a Danish bodega — the smoke-filled old-style Danish equivalents to pubs — for the big stage: garage rock with sing-song melody. It’s utterly unpretentious, wild and captivating.
Battle tackle everyday themes, but not in a classical sense: these aren’t stories from the street – these are personal and universal stories of madness and love – everyday issues of mental health, loneliness, dreams and expectations. Themes that are still, sadly, shrouded in taboo, but that are nonetheless prevalent. Multifaceted and colourful in their variety, but commonplace and real for many of us.

Having released several EP's and a mini-album in Denmark, Battle were ripe for a change: their debut album Symptom is by far their most ambitious effort to date. Recorded in the old DR studios at the Royal Conservatory in Copenhagen with producer Tommy Kamp Vestergaard, the band went from duo to quartet to realise their new ideas. The result is a record utterly unpretentious, wild and captivating. On Symptom, lyricist Ulrich Frydensberg's songs that deal with the meeting between the complexities of people's inner lives faced with the challenges of a modern, urban setting are brought to life with roaring guitars, full choir arrangements, saxophone (courtesy of Danish jazz veteran Jesper Zeuthen) and drunk-sounding organs.
